The Brandner Kaspar and eternal life
Orchestration
The death has a new mission, he should bring the Brandner Kaspar in the age of 72 in the Bavarian sky. The Brandner still feels as healthy as a fish in the water and outwits death in a card game.
However, his granddaughter Marei has to go to heaven at the age of twenty-four because she has followed her great love Flori into the mountains and thereby crashed.
Life no longer pleases the Brandner, as death once again looks past him for another chance to go to heaven. He is thrilled how beautiful it is in heaven, and would like to stay. However, the high court has to decide. It remains exciting!
Stage history
Franz von Kobell's story of the Brandner Kaspar, published in 1871 in the "Fliegenden Blätter" is a classic of Bavarian narrative art and language. Several dramatists have edited the material for the stage, most successful Kobell's great-nephew Kurt Wilhelm with "The Brandner Kaspar and eternal life".
