Swan Lake
Choreograph
Under the management of the Munich choreographer Jutta Mähr influenced by Petipa’s choreography, the whole puppet theatre developed an individual interpretation of this classic ballet. Even when it looks as if each puppet can move each individual limb without hindrance, it was tough, but possible. The mai objective of this production was to portray the dancers’ ability to withstand muscular strain to its limits, really sweating and winning the battle with balance.
Swan Lake

Piort Iljitsch Tscjaikovsky needed half a year (August 1875 to April 1876), to finish his first ballet which made its debut in the Moscow Bolschoi-Theathre. The first Russian guest performance by the Kirov-Ballet in the West, took place in 1969. The new interpretation introduced by the Startänzer’s Rudolf Nurejev and in particular by George Balanchine (New York 1951), Vladimir Bourmeister (Moscow 1956), John Cranko (Stuttgart 1963), John Neumeiern (Hamburg 2002) and an entirely male cast for a very popular amended version in “Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake” (London 1995).
