La Traviata
Staging
Three people. Three ways of life. The superficial world of a high society. Violetta Valery in the naïve world of romantic love. Alfredo Germont a young bourgeois and his father, Georgia Germont in the solid world of the bourgeoisie. Three people shedding their skin trying to discover who they are. Three people who manage to scratch their superficial surface. Three people who open up themselves so much that they are vulnerable. Alfredo has nothing to lose because he’s young. His reputation, his son and the happiness of his daughter are vital. Thus he begins to open himself. He sees the people behind the courtesan Violetta and recognises the superficial morality of his own bourgeoisie.
La Traviata
Inspired by Alexandre Dumas fils' novel “The Lady of the Camellias" which was featured in the Parisian theatre du Vaudeville in 1952. This inspired Verdi to compose “La Traviata” one of the most successful operas in the world. The debut performance was only a few months later in Teatro La Fenice in Venice on the 6th March 1853 “La Traviata” opened a new chapter in the history of opera because it was the first time that a contemporary piece was presented on stage.
